Massage Cupping Mini-Intensive
November  7 - 10, 2008

10:00 am to 5:30 pm

Cupping is an age old method of bodywork and is becoming more and more popular in the US due to its effectiveness and because…it feels great. Cups are attached to the body via negative pressure, and can be used stationary or moved along the skin.

Sensing Hands is a term used in the art of Taijiquan (T'ai Chi Ch'uan) relating to the practice and study of how we physically connect to another human being - and maintain that connection while interacting. These skills are highly useful in developing finesse with applying and manipulating cups, as well as all hands-on therapies. Plus, the study is endlessly interesting, and loads of fun.

This four day session will focus on skillful application and manipulation of glass cups (fire cupping). We will not be learning cupping treatments for specific conditions, but how to safely and seamlessly blend in cupping with whatever style of massage you practice. Workshop material will include:

Massage Cupping

• safety for the client and practitioner
• effects of cupping treatments
• ah shi, or pain point techniques
• flash cupping
• moving/gliding cupping
• contraindications
• self-cupping
• session sequencing: incorporating cupping into your practice

Sensing Hands

• mechanics of establishing & maintaining deep connection with your client
• developing intelligent touch quality through the cups
• techniques for maximizing tactile information
• techniques for joint maintenance
• solo practices for nurturing connection skills
